Football Skills Camp

Come and learn football skills from the Heritage Academy Laveen Varsity football team.  Participants will learn the fundamentals of the game such as passing, catching, defense, tackling, and blocking. 

Ages:  8-12

Science Camp

Join Heritage Academy’s science teacher, Mr. Halterman for a hands-on science experience! Each day will focus on a different scientific discipline: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Earth Science. Participants will explore the periodic table and chemical reactions, DNA and cells, Newton’s laws of motion, and rock and mineral identification. Mr. Halterman discovered a love for teaching science while working as a teaching assistant for the School of Earth and Space exploration. After graduating from ASU, Mr. Halterman worked for 11 years in the Earth Science industry as a groundwater hydrogeologist.

Summer Music Camp

Musicians who will be in 7th-9th grades for the 2018-19 school year are invited to attend our five-day intensive day camp.  Don’t let your instrument sit in its case all summer long! Come meet other musicians, keep practicing, and work with a high school music program!  Students need to have played their instrument for at least one full school year to be eligible to enroll.  Mrs. Gina Denny studied with some of the top directors in the nation at both the high school and collegiate level and runs the Heritage Academy instrumental program. Heritage musicians have been recognized in All-Region and All-State strings and band honor ensembles for junior high and high school.

Ages:  Grades 7-9

Dates: June 11th-14th, Monday-Thursday

Times:  8 AM-3 PM, with a break for lunch (not included)

Cost: $65 for 1 week session, $45 if registered by Mar. 8th

Creative Writing

Scholars will have an opportunity to explore their creative side by writing poetry and exploring the elements of story writing culminating in a short story. Week one of the camp will focus on poetry and week two will focus on story writing. Ms. Romito has been writing since she was in the fifth grade. She recently completed her Master studies in Creative Writing and Literature.

Ages: Grades 6-8

Where the Wild Things Play

Come and create your own “Wild Thing.”  We will be making imaginary friends or creatures out of many different materials.  Each day we will experiment with a different medium and create wild and crazy friends.  Techniques will include painting, drawing, printing, and soft sculpture.  Come play with the Wild Things!  Heritage Academy’s Ms. Sherri Kuecker has been an artist and teacher of the arts for 35 years.  She has taught workshops and shown her work all across the US.

Clogging is a high-energy folk dance in which the dancer’s footwear is used percussively. If you love to feel the rhythm with your feet, this class is for you! This class will be filled with fun music and crazy footwork. Come for a good ole’ time! (Clogging shoes are recommended but tennis shoes are acceptable.)  Instructor Mackenzie Woods competed with a nationally ranked competitive clogging team in Bartow, Florida for eight years. She is currently the Dance Director at Heritage Academy.

Ballet

Students will be introduce to basic fundamental skills of ballet, the foundation of dance. They

through proper technique gaining poise, posture, grace, and self-confidence.  Sarah Chapman began dancing at the age of 2 and while young she participated in recitals and ballet examinations through the Royal Academy of Dance. She also has experience with jazz, tap, gymnastics and has learned ballet is the foundation of all types of dance. She is the

owner and director of the Ballet Conservatory of Laveen.

Ballet and Tumbling

The first half of class students will learn the beauty of ballet through proper technique gaining

poise, posture, grace, and self-confidence. The class will finish with 30 minutes of tumbling where students will

Musical Theater: 

The Greatest Show

Come act, sing, and dance scenes from your favorite show with Heritage Academy’s drama director, Mr. Marcus Ellsworth.  The end of the session will culminate in a performance for your parents.  Mr. Ellsworth earned his Master’s degree in Theater for Youth, is a ten-time Zoni Award Winning director, and a founder of Arizona Youth Theater in Gilbert.

Vive la France/French Language and Culture

This camp introduces students to the beautiful French language and provides them with experiences that will enrich their understanding of French culture.  We will be painting, making crepes, and more!  French is the second most learned foreign language in the world after English.  Students will leave this camp with beginning language skills and a greater appreciation of French food, art, music, and literature.  Mr. Arnold has been teaching all levels of French for the past 13 years.  He has lived in France and enjoys traveling there.

Harrius Potter et Lingua Latina (Harry Potter Latin Camp)

Come learn about the Latin that is used in Harry Potter from the etymology of Harry Potter spells to explanations of characters and names and the history of magic.  There will be wand making and movie watching.  Miss Nicole Buck is the Latin teacher at Heritage Academy.  She has a Master’s Degree in Latin education and loves to share her love of Latin with her students.

Youth Soccer

This camp is designed for young soccer players looking for an opportunity to work on the fundamentals.  Whether this will be your first experience playing “the beautiful game,” or you have some experience and just want to sharpen your skills, this camp will have you participating in drills and games that will meet your needs and help you to improve.  Joseph Arnold began coaching youth soccer while still in high school and has coached soccer for 8 years.  He looks forward to sharing his experience with young players here in Laveen.
