Heritage Academy PTO Committee Chairperson Duties:

The Committee Chair position is generally a 2 year position for an individual or a couple who serves in leadership over a committee of teachers and parents supporting a particular department of Heritage Academy. Currently, committee chairs are requested for Academics, Sports, Performing Arts (We could split this into Band/Choir and Drama/Dance), Teacher/Staff Appreciation, Constitution Week and Fundraising.

Each Committee Chairperson would be responsible for heading the efforts of a group of parents and teachers to aid in the fundraising/ support and growth of their respective department. They would communicate with the Department head, coaches and/ or teachers relating to their department and work to focus the efforts of those on their committee along with any others wishing to help to aid their department in a unified effort. They may help lead fundraisers, orientations, tryouts, concessions, music rentals, rehearsals, carpooling to practices and/or games, parking duties at school or special events, concert/performance ushering, program creation, booster club creation, scholar/athlete recognition nights, lunch distribution and uniform distribution among other things.  The Chairperson will help generate, propose, and report on these activities during meetings.

Attendance at monthly PTO meetings is required for Chairpeople. Meeting times and locations are flexible as the PTO decides how to best fit member’s schedules.

Meetings will generally be 1-1.5 hours. We spend our time addressing the various ways we can support our new school under our different areas of interest through our planned activities and efforts.  Each committee Chair will report on the efforts of their committee to meet the needs of their Department. Discussion will follow regarding ideas, solutions and proposed future activities. The PTO consists of parents and teachers of Heritage Academy Maricopa campus.  Members are encouraged to participate in any meeting and activity that they are able in order to support the mission of the Maricopa Heritage Academy PTO.

***All Heritage Academy families are asked to pay yearly PTO dues of $20. These funds contribute directly to our mission below and will be applied on an as needed basis as we progress through the PTO activities of the year.

If a family has a financial hardship, they are encouraged to seek an interview with Principal Ellsworth so she is aware of the situation and can possibly offer helpful resources.

The mission of the Laveen Heritage Academy Parent Teacher Organization is to:

  1. Raise funds to assist the various Departments of Heritage Academy meet the needs of their scholar’s education when there is a gap between funds and academic needs.
  2. Increase communication, cooperation and participation between scholars, parents and teachers with regard to scholar activities outside the classroom.
  3. Nurture a supportive, enriching, social and academic environment for Heritage Scholars as well as teachers and staff.

Heritage Academy PTO Committee Member and Parent Support

This role is filled by a parent or teacher who wants to help support the school but may not be able to commit to attending all the monthly meetings or who may not be able to chair a committee. Committee members support the efforts of their committee however and whenever time allows. They maintain good communication with their committee chairperson. These parents and teachers function more as project based support and can serve on more than one committee.
